Empty City
Running on Empty from Ross Ching on Vimeo.
Few people can call Los Angeles home. It’s one of the things I love about it–people come from every corner of the earth to convene in this crazy city. One of the first things people would relate to LA is traffic. Cars. People. Crowds. It’s a busy place. It’s hard to imagine LA without all the vehicles and people because it’s such a major part of the way everything works. Well thanks to this video, you don’t have to imagine too much…
This video, created by Ross Ching, was inspired by Matt Logue’s Empty Los Angeles photo series and shows a time lapse video of different parts of LA devoid of cars and people. It’s eerie but peaceful. Reminds me of those moments I have (normally while driving on some freeway through the city) where everything seems to slow down and the light is hitting everything just right. I feel overwhelmed by how beautiful the city is and am so happy to call Los Angeles my home. I love those moments and I hope this video makes you feel the same!

Maker Mornings

Last month’s brunch seemed like it just happened–oh how time flies!

This time we met at my house and I made quiche with chicken apple sausage and bell pepper, baked donuts, and granola with yogurt and fresh berries.

Heather made this amaaazingly refreshing cucumber lemonade and it matched my table cloth!

Shan worked on a paint by number of horses. I forgot that those things were so complicated and involved…

Rachel was working on some fun little embroidery pieces

Aaaand here’s Heather showing Paige how she is embroidering on some curtains.

Next Maker Mornings Brunch is tomorrow in Long Beach! We’re doing it on a Saturday, for those of you that can’t normally make it on a Sunday

Make It

A couple months back, my dear friend Heather and I decided to start hosting a monthly get together for our girl friends who enjoyed making things. In a flurry of silly giddiness, we jokingly dubbed it “Craft Brunch Bunch.”

Last month we held our first brunch at Heather’s (and Eric’s) lovely home in Long Beach.

Heather and I made some delicious brunch treats, got supplies for mimosas, and let the fun begin!

We had projects ranging from crocheting to making small bird sculptures from old soda cans.

It was such a fun time of getting to know new people, catching up with dear friends, and getting to work on projects that had been pushed to the back burner.

If you live in the area and are interested in setting aside some time once a month to work on a project, learn a new skill, or just hang out with some good people, you are more than welcome to join us! Our next Brunch is this Sunday 11-3 at my house in Long Beach. If you are interested in joining, leave me a comment and I’ll get in touch with you.

Happy Monday, everyone, and I hope to see some of you this weekend!
